The Blenheim Post Office building was opened in 1974. Since that time, this well-known six storey building has been home to many different enterprises such as; government departments, real estate offices, architects, consultants, and many others. Nowadays, the building is under the ownership of the Rangitane Iwi, and in 2012 the entire property underwent a major refurbishment.
Construction Coatings Limited was awarded the painting contracts for both the interior and exterior of the building. It was a major undertaking, as our team used the full range of high-quality Resene products for the exterior, while using imported specialist Zolatone finishes for the main public areas within the interior. This resulted in the revitalisation of one of Blenheim’s long-standing commercial buildings.
Beginning in 2008, and drawing to a close in mid 2011, the redevelopment of Blenheim’s Wairau Hospital, undertaken by the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board (NMDHB) has been a major project for Construction Coatings Limited.
Scheduled works included 18,200m2 of walls, 2,300m2 of ceilings, 1,560lm of skirtings, 100 doors, 5,354lm of architraves door frames and trim. 662m2 of panels, 484m2 of floors, and 2,500 litres of paint.
The long-awaited Wairau Hospital redevelopment took 27 months to complete, highlighting our company’s commitment to seeing even the most complex contracts through to full completion.
A project of this scale provides a challenge for even the most experienced painting company, but Construction Coatings Limited were up to the task!
As the official painting subcontractor for all four stages of the project overseen by the main contractor Hawkins Construction, the main focus of our work largely consisted of full interior and exterior painting, however at times the project also included specialist coatings, as well as tanking to the hydrotherapy pool.
Construction Coatings Limited consistently achieved every milestone in the tight construction programme. Many challenges were met, especially during the closing phase of each stage, where up to 100 tradespeople could be on site at any one time, tending to the myriad of elements that provide a fully functional hospital.
The standard of finish accepted by the architect and the main contractor was demanding in the time frames prescribed by the building programme, meanwhile the hospital continued to function alongside our works. Through close coordination with the main contractor and cooperation with other tradesmen, Construction Coatings Limited helped to ensure the hospital’s day-to-day operations continued to run smoothly.
The end result was both full satisfaction and success for the client, NMDHB, the patients and staff who now enjoy a state of the art facility that will serve the local community for decades to come.
